Welcome to MCHD Dentistry! We are so glad that you have chosen us as your new dental home and we look forward to getting to know you and your family over the years to come.
What happens at your first dental visit?
We strongly encourage you to arrive at your first appointment a few minutes early to allow us to get your information in order. If we sent you any forms via text message or email, please be sure to have those filled out prior to your appointment. It is also a great idea to bring a list of medications you are taking (over-the-counter and prescribed) and a copy of your insurance card if applicable.
The first visit is scheduled with one of our dentists on staff. After they have had a few moments to review your medical and dental history, you will be called back to their operatory. They will review your history and assess the need for any consultations needed to provide care for you. X-rays will be taken to evaluate for tooth decay and also to diagnose any bone loss or any other pathologies. A comprehensive exam that includes an oral cancer screening will also be completed. If your oral cavity is relatively healthy and you are not in pain, you will be scheduled to have your teeth cleaned (scaled and polished). When time allows, your dental cleaning may take place right after your initial visit with one of our registered dental hygienists.
If you have periodontal (gum) disease or if it has been a long time since you have been to the dentist for a cleaning, you may be rescheduled for a deep cleaning at a later time. Either way, one of our doctors will provide an exam and take a few minutes to get to know you and your needs. If the dentist finds that you need additional work beyond cleaning, we will get you scheduled and discuss your treatment plan in detail.
Make an appointment to see us every six months to keep your mouth healthy!
