USDA official Cindy Long to tour MCHD WIC’s Fairmont office on Thursday
MORGANTOWN, WV (Oct. 23, 2023) — Cindy Long, administrator of the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), will tour Monongalia County Health Department’s WIC office in Fairmont, beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26.
In addition to Long, attendees will include Dr. Patty Bennett, administrator of the USDA’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Office (MARO); Julena Campbell, MARO director of communications and partnerships; Heidi Staats, state WIC director; Wendy Madden, regional outreach representative for U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin; MCHD WIC staff members, including program manager Cami Haught; and, possibly, invited government officials.
USDA’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides federal grants to states for supplemental foods, health care referrals and nutrition education for participants who qualify (www.monchd.org/departments-programs/wic).
The USDA FNS works in partnership with organizations that have missions to provide children and low-income families with food as well as healthy diet and nutrition education.
This visit offers media opportunities as Long and other guests tour the clinic to highlight the USDA’s commitment to the health and well-being of pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children. The visit is scheduled to last until 10:30 a.m.
In addition to a tour of the facility, Long’s visit will include interaction with clients, discussions with key MCHD WIC staff members as well as time to talk to members of the media.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to showcase our Marion County WIC office, our hardworking staff and the different services we provide to our participants,” Haught said.
The MCHD WIC office in Fairmont is located at 532 Pennsylvania Ave.
