
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) is medicine taken to prevent getting HIV, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV when taken as indicated.
- PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%.
- PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from injection drug use by at least 74%.
Monongalia County Health Department is currently taking appointments for patients interested in HIV PrEP. Patients will be seen by Haley Tucker, advanced practice nurse practitioner, in a welcoming and friendly environment.

During this appointment, patients will be tested for HIV and other lab work will be conducted. If HIV PrEP is right for you, you will receive a prescription. The patient will also return for routine follow-ups.
